Program Descriptions

MISSION STATEMENT:
The construction industry is committed to projecting a positive image by informing students, parents, and school councillors of the industry's career opportunities, growth, and salary potential. Construction should be a first-choice career. Our goal is to expose the myths about it being a blue-collar, dirty, unsafe career and entice intelligent, critical thinkers and committed individuals who can problem-solve.

Elementary School Program

With the target age range for grade 7's and 8's, this program will have an introduction with personal career success stories and an overview of all the different career avenues that are available. The purpose is to spark interest in the hands-on trades through group activities, a question-and-answer period and a take home "Construction Career Tool Belt" which will contain resources and information regarding all trades/ careers available in the construction industry.

High School Program

Available to all high school classrooms, this program is designed to provide students with personal success stories from members in the industry, an in-depth overview of the pathways to careers in construction, salary overviews, education requirements and resources.  There are also group activities, a question-and-answer period and a take home "Construction Career Tool Belt" which will contain resources and information regarding trades /  careers available in the construction industry.

Tools & Resources:
In each session we will be playing a board game called "Jobsite- The Board Game” (www.jobsitegame.com, created by constructionlab) as an integrative learning tool to give students an overview of the life cycle of a construction project. This is designed to spark an interest and intrigue  students about a career in construction.
